Immigrant Women Program Legal Internships (Washington, DC Office)

Internship Description
The Washington, DC office of Legal Momentum, which includes our Immigrant Women Program, offers unpaid internships or internships for school credit in the fall, spring and summer academic semesters. A 15-35 hour per week commitment for 10-12 weeks is required. The DC office of Legal Momentum serves as the advocacy and policy arm of the organization, whose national office is located in New York City.
The DC office is located right in the middle of downtown, and interns not only have the chance to witness first-hand the exciting and complex legislative process, but they are also given enough responsibility to make their participation meaningful and rewarding. Issues covered include poverty and welfare reform, immigrant women (including immigration law reform, cultural diversity issues), violence against women, and childcare.
Interns will work with the Immigrant Woman Program (IWP) on a range of tasks, including:
Legal interns should be a law student or attorney and should have a strong interest in gender equality, women's legal rights and/or immigrant rights. A love of feminist issues, politics, and hard work is useful, and a working knowledge of the American political process is recommended.
