SUMMER 2010 LEGAL INTERNSHIP 

Legal Momentum is the oldest national legal advocacy organization dedicated to advancing women's rights. We have used the power of the law to define and defend women's rights for 40 years, through our expertise in law, policy development, public education, and coalition building. Legal Momentum has participated in numerous cases and projects in all areas of the law affecting women. Current priorities include increasing pathways into quality employment opportunities, protecting workplace rights of vulnerable populations, strengthening the safety net, and expanding rights, justice, and services for victims of violence. 

INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION:

Legal Momentum strives to provide its legal interns with a stimulating and diversified experience.  In the past, Legal Momentum interns have participated in litigation and other projects, performing such duties as researching and drafting legal memoranda and briefs, preparing Congressional testimony, drafting model legislation, screening potential cases for Legal Momentum involvement, and drafting informational pamphlets on legal topics. Applicants should expect most of their work to involve legal and policy research and writing, and conducting intake.  Interns are also encouraged to participate in regular meetings of the legal staff, as well as meetings with other groups.

Internship Funding:

Successful summer internship applicants must seek financial support from their school for the internship.  If school funding is unavailable, Legal Momentum may be able to assist with alternatives.

APPLICATION DEADLINES AND REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must complete the application form, below, and attach to it their resume, transcript and a legal writing sample.

Application deadlines are:

    • April 1, 2010.

Early applications are strongly encouraged because applications will be considered on a rolling basis, and preference may be given to early applications.

Incomplete applications will not be considered; however, first year students who have not produced a finished piece of legal writing by the application date may send a sample of their non-legal writing and a target date for the submission of the legal writing.
