Erin Smith

Deputy Director of Communications

Erin Smith joined Legal Momentum as deputy director of communications in January 2009. Smith has spent most of her professional life working in nonprofit and political advocacy and comes to Legal Momentum from a stint in Springfield, Missouri, managing regional and statewide press for then presidential candidate Barack Obama's campaign. Prior to that, she served as a campaign communications strategist for Service Employees International Union (SEIU), focusing on corporate accountability among international multi-services companies. Before moving to labor, she worked to advance reproductive and sexual health, freedom, justice, and separation of church and state as press officer for Catholics for Choice in Washington, D.C.

Before moving to Washington, D.C., Smith spent three years in Austin where she worked in communications and marketing for SafePlace, Central Texas' sexual assault and domestic violence response and prevention center, and at the Texas Equal Access to Justice Foundation, where she coordinated statewide outreach for TexasLawHelp.org, a site that delivers easy-to-understand legal information to individuals who cannot afford a lawyer.

Smith holds a BA in Political Science from Davidson College in North Carolina, and an MA in Religious Studies from Columbia University.
