Kavitha has lectured and trained extensively throughout the country and is widely regarded as an expert in the intersection of family law, domestic violence, and immigration law. As a policy advocate, Kavitha has authored language in several state statutes protecting immigrant domestic violence survivors and trafficked persons. She has also participated in national advocacy efforts on behalf of South Asian immigrants, immigrant domestic violence survivors, and trafficked persons. Kavitha served on the Board of Directors of Narika, an agency serving South Asian women who are victims of violence for six years. Most recently, she served as President of the Board of Directors. Kavitha has also served on the board of the South Asian Bar Association and as a co-chair to Asian American Bar Association Civil Rights Committee.
Kavitha received her J.D. from U.C. Hastings and her B.A. from U.C. Berkeley. She is a recipient of the 2004 Unity Award from the Coalition of Minority Bar Associations and the 2007 Tanya Neiman Award from Partners Ending Domestic Abuse and the San Francisco Domestic Violence Consortium.
