Legal Momentum has authored a letter to Senator Charles Grassley, Senate Judiciary Committee chair, and Senator Patrick Leahy, ranking member of the Committee supporting the confirmation of Loretta Lynch as the next U.S. Attorney General. Legal Momentum supports Ms. Lynch because in her illustrious career in law enforcement she has always made protecting the most vulnerable members of our society a hallmark of her tenure. She has distinguished herself as a leader in fighting human trafficking, which our government has rightly called “modern-day slavery.” She has also worked tirelessly to protect child victims from exploitation by people they know and trust.

Under Ms. Lynch’s guidance, the U.S. Attorney’s Office’s anti-trafficking program indicted more than 55 defendants in sex trafficking cases and rescued more than 110 victims of sex trafficking, including more than 20 minors. In addition, 18 children, many of whom were being held by sex traffickers in Mexico, have been reunited with their mothers, who were also victims.

Because Loretta Lynch has sought to protect the most vulnerable and powerless members of our communities, she is a public servant in the true sense of the word. She has worked tirelessly to safeguard our communities and to enforce federal laws, and has done so without fear or favor. We can think of no better candidate for the post of U.S. Attorney General.

Numerous other widely respected organizations including Futures Without Violence, the National Domestic Violence Hotline, and Girls for Gender Equity have signed on to the letter. The full text of Legal Momentum’s letter in support of Ms. Lynch’s confirmation can be read here.
