Transforming Trauma: Implementation of Policies and Promising Practices

The Women and Trauma Federal Partners’ Committee’s second Roundtable event will bring together more than 150 Federal, State, local, tribal, and community stakeholders, as well as trauma survivors who are working with diverse populations of women and girls affected by trauma.  Legal Momentum's Vice President for Government Relations Lisalyn Jacobs will participate.  The meeting will catalyze dialogue, strengthen collaboration among federal partners, and increase commitment to support policies and programs which are trauma-informed and promote trauma recovery and resiliency, as well as the health and well-being of women and girls. 

Meeting Format
The Women and Trauma Federal Partners’ Roundtable II will consist of plenary presentations, panel discussions, and breakout sessions.  Plenary, panel, and breakout sessions will be defined by the Women and Trauma Federal Partners subcommittee focal areas.  The six focal areas include:

  • Implementation of Trauma-Informed Care with Community-Based Front-Line Providers
  • New Approaches to Trauma Prevention and  Screening Assessment
  • Integration of the First Person Experience and Voice of Women Exposed to Trauma
  • Trauma-Informed Care in Cross-Cultural Settings: Diversity Issues within National and International Organizations for Minorities; People with Disabilities; the Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual and Transgender Communities; and other Underserved Populations
  • Trauma-Informed Care and the Workplace
  • Military and Veteran Women and Trauma-Informed Care

Roundtable II Objectives

  1. Identify promising practices, gaps, and policy implications that address trauma in the lives of women and girls
  2. Expand the dialogue, knowledge base, and opportunities for collaboration among Federal Partners and stakeholders
  3. Continue to advance systems change that was initiated by Roundtable I, held in April 2010
  4. Emphasize a multi-systems approach to address awareness, prevention, appropriate assessment, intervention, treatment, education, outreach, and sustainability

About the Women and Trauma Federal Partners Committee
The Women and Trauma Federal Partners’ Committee aims to build awareness and stimulate cross-agency action regarding women, girls, and trauma.  Our purpose is to coordinate and promote the development of policies and services among Federal agencies which effectively support women and girls who have been affected by exposure to trauma.  The committee has diverse representation from among an array of Federal Departments and Agencies, including, but not limited to, the Departments of Agriculture, Defense, Education, Health and Human Services, Housing and Urban Development, Justice, Labor, State, and Veterans Affairs.
