Today is Equal Pay Day. This day recognizes how far into the particular year women need to work in order to earn what men earned in the previous year. As Legal Momentum’s work and research has shown, most women in the U.S. are paid only 77 cents for every dollar paid to male counterparts, and women of color earn even less. See more here and here .
Legal Momentum continues to work for changing the system so that equity can one day be achieved in the workplace in job opportunity and pay. Our programs include: promoting opportunity and equality for women in non-traditional job sectors, advocating for workplace policies, and rights in the workplace. In particular, Legal Momentum's Pipeline Project works to increase girls’ enrollment in high schools that prepare them for the skilled trades with the goal of overcoming the institutionalized gender segregation long the norm in these schools. Legal Momentum also takes on litigation challenging gender-based employment discrimination.
