Legal Momentum Hails Elena Kagan's Confirmation to U.S. Supreme Court

New York (August 6, 2010) -

Legal Momentum hails the historic confirmation of Elena Kagan to serve as Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court.  Justice Kagan was confirmed earlier this week by the U.S. Senate in a bi-partisan 63-37 vote.

"We're thrilled that the first woman Solicitor General will join two brilliant women jurists, and mark the first time in history that women have held 1/3 of the seats in the U.S. Supreme Court.  This moment is both ground-breaking, and long overdue," said Irasema Garza, President of Legal Momentum.  "We look forward to Elena Kagan bringing to bear her wealth of experience, formidable intellect and commitment to justice for all as she takes her place on the Court."

Justice Kagan, who once served as law clerk to Associate Justice Thurgood Marshall, will be assuming the seat vacated by Associate Justice John Paul Stevens.  Both Justices championed the rights of women, of minorities, and of all Americans and left the nation a stronger and better place.  We look forward to Elena Kagan carrying on their legacies of standing up for the rights of minorities and women, and serving the nation with distinction.
