NEW YORK -- Legal Momentum, the nation’s oldest legal defense and education fund dedicated to advancing the rights of women and girls, announces Mary Huss as a 2009 Woman of Achievement.

Mary Huss has been publisher of the San Francisco Business Times since 1991, and her career with regional business journals spans over two decades. Under Mary’s leadership, the San Francisco Business Times has become one of the top revenue and profit-producing of the 40 American City Business Journals around the country.

Mary began her career with business journals as part of the startup team that launched the St. Louis Business Journal and a number of other business journals in the early 1980’s.  Before coming to San Francisco, she was publisher of the Philadelphia Business Journal.   She has been a reporter, an editor, a circulation director, an ad sales director and publisher of two business journals. Early in her career she was a writer for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, and before that, was founding editor of a successful weekly alternative newspaper in St. Louis, The Riverfront Times.

In 2004, Mary was Board Chair of the San Francisco Chamber of Commerce, and continues to serve on that board and executive board. Mary also serves on the boards of San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Bay Area Council, Junior Achievement, the Commonwealth Club, the Headlands Institute and Golden Gate University, among others.

Ms. Huss will be recognized with Lynn M. Sedway, Managing Director, CBRE Consulting and San Francisco Chief of Police Heather Fong.

Irasema Garza, president of Legal Momentum, notes, “From law enforcement to media to real estate, each of our 2009 Women of Achievement honorees is demonstrating the positive impact of women’s leadership in the Bay Area and throughout the nation.”

Legal Momentum inaugurated the Women of Achievement Awards in 2006 to recognize women whose personal leadership has broken new ground in law, business and public policy, thereby demonstrating the positive impact of women’s full and equal participation in civic and corporate life. Former recipients include: San Francisco District Attorney Hon. Kamala D. Harris (2006); Joanne Hayes-White, Chief of the San Francisco Fire Department (2007); and Anne W.
