Nominee Samuel A. Alito: A Troubling Record on Women's Rights

October 31, 2005 -

Judge Alito's decisions show he:

  • Supports spousal consent for abortion.
  • Opposes state employees' right to sue the state to gain the benefits of the federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA).
  • Would deny female students who are sexually abused by fellow students the right to sue schools.

"Judge Alito's extreme conservative views are a serious threat to women's equality, individual rights and to the power of Congress to represent all Americans," Kathy Rodgers, President, Legal Momentum.
