Legal Momentum, the nation's oldest women's legal rights organization, calls on the U.S. Senate to be thorough and courageous in their questioning of the President's nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court, Harriet Miers.
The sixty-year old former White House Counsel has never been a judge, has left no judicial record and may impact the lives of women and their daughters for generations.
Moderate associate Justice Sandra Day O'Connor was the swing vote on many rulings involving freedom and equality for women. The addition of a justice with a right wing agenda could tilt the scales of justice to the far right for years. "Though we applaud her efforts to break barriers for women throughout her career and we support another woman on the court, we believe America wants a justice with a diverse voice not an ideologue with a narrow mission," says Kathy Rodgers, President of Legal Momentum.
We know little about Harriet Miers and when it comes to the future of liberties and opportunities for women," says Rodgers, "Ignorance is not bliss."
