Ten years after the horrific terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Legal Momentum remembers the victims and celebrates the heroes who came to their aid.
In this tenth anniversary year, Legal Momentum pays tribute to the female firefighters, police officers, EMT personnel, and volunteer iron workers, welders, carpenters, cable splicers and toilers on the bucket brigade. These women worked tirelessly alongside their male counterparts to clean up and rebuild New York, Washington D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Legal Momentum recognized these often-overlooked heroes in its 2002 documentary "The Women of Ground Zero." The film, narrated by actress Cynthia Nixon, examines the role of female firefighters, paramedics, police officers and other emergency workers who heroically responded to the tragedy.
In honor of the tenth anniversary, Legal Momentum Equality Works Program Manager Françoise Jacobsohn participated in "10 Years Later: Women Heroes on 9/11 and Beyond," a program that discussed the role of women in non-traditional jobs that were so crucial to the country’s recovery from that tragic day. Presented by Women’s eNews, "10 Years Later" included some of the women featured in "The Women of Ground Zero." CNN’s Soledad O’Brien moderated the program at the 92Y Tribeca on Wednesday, September 7th, 2011. Ms. O’Brien’s documentary, "Beyond Bravery: The Women of 9/11," will air on CNN on September 8 and September 11.
