New York magazine explored the role of female heroes in the 9/11 attacks with the article, "Flight Attendants: The Heroes of the Day Weren’t All Men."
Legal Momentum Senior Vice President Lynn Hecht Schafran responded to ensure that the women in nontraditional jobs – women who are too often forgotten – will be remembered on the tenth anniversary of 9/11:
The other brave but invisible women in the 9/11 tragedy were the female firefighters, police officers, EMT personnel and volunteer iron workers, welders, carpenters, cable splicers and toilers on the bucket brigade who worked tirelessly alongside their male counterparts in the aftermath. To honor these women and make them visible Legal Momentum in 2002 produced a video, "The Women of Ground Zero." In this anniversary year, Women's eNews is presenting a program "10 Years Later: Women Heroes on 9/11 and Beyond," in which some of the women in our video will participate. That program is on September 7, 2011 at the 92nd Street Y, Tribeca, It will be moderated by Soledad O’Brien of CNN who has made a documentary, "Beyond Bravery: The Women of 9/11," which will air on September 8 and September 11 on CNN.
