  • Federal Fair Housing Act

  • ABA Recommendation and Report: On February 10, 2003, the American Bar Association formally urged federal, state and local governments to "prohibit discrimination in housing against victims of domestic violence." A six-page report, prepared with the assistance of Legal Momentum, accompanied the recommendation.
    The recommendation adopted by the ABA reads as follows:
    • RESOLVED, That the ABA supports federal, state, local and territorial legislation to prohibit discrimination in housing against victims of domestic violence;
    • FURTHER RESOLVED, That the ABA urges all relevant federal, state, local and territorial administrative agencies to adopt and vigorously enforce regulations to combat such discrimination.

  • In a Clearinghouse Review article, Emily J. Martin of the ACLU and Naomi Stern of the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty discuss outreach strategies to improve access to the federal housing programs for domestic violence survivors, in the context of HUD's Public Housing Occupancy Guidebook chapter on domestic violence.
