Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I download and save a file to my computer?

Each file is listed as a hyperlink. Click on the hyperlink of the document or file you wish to download. For most web browsers, PDF files will open in a new window or tab. Within the new window or tab, go to File and click "Save Page As." Proceed to save the file to your computer in a designated folder. For all other files (e.g. PowerPoint and zip files), a window will appear prompting you to open or save the file.

2. What is a zip file? How do I open one?

A zip file is a file folder that contains one or more files that have been compressed to reduce size. Begin by following the instructions for download above. Once the zip file is saved to your computer, you must extract the files. To do this, open the saved zip file folder and go to File (on the toolbar) and click "Extract All." If you are using Microsoft Office software, you may be prompted to use Extraction Wizard which will guide you through several easy steps. Once this is completed, you will be able to open and access the files.

3. I downloaded the "Resources CD and Annotated Table of Contents" zip file. Which file should I open first?

Once you have downloaded any "Resources CD" zip file, it is imperative that you extract all compressed files first [for detailed instructions, see Question #2]. Once all files have been extracted, open the Annotated Table of Contents. Within this document, each resource is listed as a hyperlinked citation followed by a brief description. To open the full-text PDF of a specific resource, click on the citation and the file will automatically open. We highly recommend reading the Annotated Table of Contents first in order to familiarize yourself with the resources that are available.

4. Can I burn these materials to a CD? If so, how do I do that?

Yes, you are welcome to burn these materials to a CD. NJEP encourages the distribution of these materials to colleagues and program participants via CD. Be sure to affix the corresponding CD label to the burned CD(s). Labels are located in the "Graphics for Reproducing this Module" zip file found on each module's "Main Menu" page. The Faculty Manual provides instructions on how to burn a CD.

5. I am planning a program and would like these materials in hard copy. What should I do?

For hard copy use of these materials and/or resources, we strongly recommend using a three-ring binder.  To do this, follow these 4 easy steps:

  1. Download the module(s) and/or resources you want in hard copy;
  2. Print and three-hole punch;
  3. Use tab dividers or colored paper to separate module components (Note: the components do not have a comprehensive table of contents);
  4. Insert print-outs into a three ring binder.

Also available for each module is a customized, ready-to-print binder cover (in PDF format). If you wish to use this cover, navigate to the main menu for the module you have printed and download the “Graphics for Reproducing this Module” zip file [for instructions on how to download zip files, see Question #2). Proceed to print the binder cover PDF file in either color or black and white.

5. I am not a Judge; can I still use these materials?

Of course! All modules and resources available on this website are applicable to judicial and multidisciplinary audiences as well as to any individual interested in cases involving adult victims of sexual assault.

6. How do I properly cite these materials?
