Pregnancy-related Disability Accommodation

Indiana does not specifically accommodate pregnancy or its attendant medical conditions as a disability.

Breastfeeding Rights

To the extent reasonably possible, an employer must make reasonable efforts to provide a room, other than a toilet stall, close to the work area, for an employee to express breast milk in private during any period away from the employee's assigned duties. To the extent reasonably possible, an employer shall provide a cold storage space for keeping milk or allow the employee to provide her own.[1]

Family and Childcare Leave Laws

Public School Teachers - Pregnancy and Pregnancy-related Disability Leave

A teacher who is pregnant may continue in active employment as late into pregnancyas she wishes, if she can fulfill the requirements of her position. The teacher shall be granted a leave of absence any time between the commencement of her pregnancy and one year following the birth of the child, if she provides at least thirty days notice.  All or part of a leave taken because of a temporary disability caused by pregnancy may be charged to the teacher's available sick days. However, the teacher is not entitled to take accumulated sick days when she is capable of performing her regular teaching duties. The teacher may receive compensation for the pregnancyleave.[2]
