Legal Momentum Announces Jennifer Becker as New Legal Director
New York – January 21, 2022—Legal Momentum, the nation’s first and longest-serving legal advocacy organization for women, today announced Jennifer Becker has been promoted to Legal Director. In this role, she will maintain her caseload while overseeing the litigation strategies and policy solutions pursued by Legal Momentum and its staff.
“We are thrilled to elevate Jennifer Becker to Legal Director, a role reflecting her demonstrated leadership within our organization, as well as her leadership in the broader legal context of protecting women’s rights,” said Carol Baldwin Moody, CEO of Legal Momentum.
Becker currently serves on the National Task Force to End Domestic Violence on behalf of Legal Momentum, as well as serving as lead counsel in high impact litigation in relation to gender-based violence and equal education opportunities. She will continue these duties in addition to managing Legal Momentum’s attorneys and legal docket processes.
Becker joined the organization in March 2016 as Senior Staff Attorney and has served as Deputy Legal Director since January 2018. Prior to working at Legal Momentum, she was the Title IX Coordinator for the New York City Department of Education, and a former sex crimes and child abuse prosecutor with the Bronx County District Attorney’s office where she served for seven years.
Becker is preceded in the position by Lynn Hecht Schafran, who has been in the Legal Director position since September 2017. Schafran will remain in her leadership position as Senior Vice President and Director of the National Judicial Education Program (NJEP), which she has directed since 1981.
