Legal Momentum's Senior Economic Empowerment Attorney, Seher Khawaja, was quoted in Marketplace discussing the new New York State pay transparency law that is expected to be signed into law soon. Khawaja details how the law can reduce the impact of unconscious bias in hiring and setting pay, but that there's still room to grow with expanding this law to employers with fewer than four employees.

“Requiring employers to disclose a pay range upfront forces them to contemplate a range based on objective factors, so budget skills and job responsibilities instead of relying solely on candidate-specific factors, which tend to incorporate these biases that devalue the work of women and other minority groups,” she said.
