- Working women are facing extraordinary challenges in the US today. But it’s not the same for everyone: from one state to the next, policies around wages, protections, and rights vary dramatically.
- Dr. Kaitlyn Henderson, Senior Research Advisor for Oxfam America’s US Domestic Policy Program, and Seher Khawaja, Legal Momentum’s Senior Attorney for Economic Empowerment, published a piece, "We Must Value and Respect Women's Work" on Oxfam's blog detailing the many ways in which women's work is undervalued in our society and how the lack of national policies and protections for working women, especially those with dual caretaking roles, prevent women from reaching full equality within our economy.
- Featured in the piece are two resources critical to advocating for more robust protections for working women: Legal Momentum’s Working Woman’s Bill of Rights and Oxfam’s Best States for Working Women Index.

- Legal Momentum revisits Harriet Pilpel's “The Fetus as Person: Possible Legal Consequences of the Hogan-Helms Amendment” and examines how the questions she raised in 1974 are coming true today with the overruling of Roe v. Wade.
- We highlight a few of her questions, with links to articles that consider these issues at length.
- We also explain what Legal Momentum is doing now that these “potential legal consequences” of fetal personhood are coming to fruition.

- Legal Momentum launched a new resource today: Drug Testing Pregnant Patients: What You Need to Know
- Drug Testing Pregnant Patients: What You Need to Know provides pregnant people with baseline information about the harms and potential consequences of non-consensual drug testing, their rights as a pregnant person seeking healthcare, and ways to take action if they have been subjected to this practice.
- We also created a New York specific version that includes additional rights and action items for pregnant people living in New York State.

- Wisconsin’s Supreme Court last week handed down a ruling interpreting an important law for criminalized sex trafficking survivors.
- Chrystul Kizer is a child sex trafficking victim who killed her trafficker in self-defense at the age of 17.
- Wisconsin’s open-ended affirmative defense statute, and its Supreme Court’s decision in Wisconsin v. Chyrstul Kizer, are important for Chrystul, for all Wisconsin trafficking survivors, and as a model for other states to emulate.

- Our 2021-2022 Rights Now! Peer Educators celebrated their graduation from the program at the end of June.
- The Peer Educators spent months training in our workshop series, updating our content, and facilitating trainings across New York City.

- Last week Congress passed--and over the weekend President Biden signed into law--the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
- Congress included provisions that partially close the "boyfriend loophole" by not allowing abusers convicted of domestic violence to possess or receive firearms.
- Previously the domestic violence firearm prohibition only applied to adjudicated abusers who were currently/formerly married to, cohabitating with, or had a child in common with the victim.
- The dating violence provisions included in the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act will save lives. Yet there still remain gaps, including that dating partners subject to final protective orders are not covered.

- Today, the Supreme Court of the United States overruled Roe v. Wade and eliminated the federal right to abortion. The Dobbs decision is harrowing, but it is not surprising.
- Women have long been tasked with caregiving without access to basic maternal care, pregnancy accommodations, paid family leave, paid time off, and affordable childcare.
- Today, by overruling the federal right to abortion, the Court stripped women of their remaining autonomy to safeguard their own futures.

- June 23rd, 2022 is the 50th Anniversary of Title IX. While the legislation was enacted 50 years ago, it wasn't immediately enforced.
- Legal Momentum established the Project on Equal Education Rights (PEER) to hold the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW) accountable in enforcing Title IX's protections.
- PEER had a three-pronged approach to carry out its mission
