Program Associate

 

Samantha Luce is the Program Associate for the National Judicial Education Program (NJEP) and the Legal Department. In her role, she develops research-driven materials used to educate judges and justice-system professionals about gender bias in the courts. This includes developing content for the organization’s Teen Dating Violence curriculum, managing grant administration and coordinating judicial education opportunities. In the Legal Department, she also assists with litigation, legal research, and programmatic support for Legal Momentum's various projects.

Before joining Legal Momentum, Samantha was a legal assistant at Legal Services NYC (LSNYC), where she served as an advocate for low-income homeowners facing foreclosure in Staten Island and secured over $500,000 in home-saving funds for her clients. She then transitioned into working at LSNYC on behalf of survivors of domestic violence involved in family, civil, and criminal legal proceedings. She also provided advocacy in public benefits cases and State Central Registry clearance, and regularly participated in lobbying campaigns in Albany for issues affecting the clients she served. At LSNYC, Samantha also served as a chair of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee and a delegate for the Legal Services Staff Association. Samantha previously interned with HELVETAS Swiss Intercooperation in La Paz, Bolivia working on agricultural development for indigenous farmers.

Samantha received her Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies from Harvard College, where she was also an Undergraduate Fellow at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. In 2017, she recieved the Hoopes Prize for her original field reserach on violence in public transportation in South Africa.
