International Women’s Day developed out of the labor movements of the early 20th century, and has been used to advocate for fair working conditions and the right to vote. The United Nations formally acknowledged International Women’s Day in 1975.

On The U.S. Supreme Court Decision In Coleman V. Maryland Court Of Appeals

March 21, 2012 - The U.S. Supreme Court decision in Coleman v. Maryland Court of Appeals is a huge defeat for working people and gender equity. As a practical matter, the decision allows states to deny leave to state workers who are temporarily unable to work due to pregnancy or illness even when the workers are eligible for leave under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act. This ruling hits working women especially hard.
