This article recounts recent cases in which judges imposed minimal sentences on wife beaters and murderers, the intense response of the communities in which these cases occurred, and the ways in which judicial selection, election, education, evaluation and discipline can be used to prevent recurrence of this type of gender bias. 58 Albany L.
