Overview
Human trafficking is a scourge. While there is no reliable data about the full scale of human trafficking in the U.S. or around the world, the U.S. State Department estimates that approximately 600,000 to 800,000 people are trafficked across international borders. The National Human Trafficking Hotline received more than 26,000 calls in 2017, with more than 6,000 reported cases of sex trafficking and more than 1,200 cases of labor trafficking reported. Human trafficking is perpetrated not only across international borders, but within the boundaries of small towns. Women and girls are disproportionately victimized by trafficking.
Legal Momentum works to eradicate human trafficking by using the power of the law to challenge those who profit from trafficking; by advocating for laws that hold traffickers accountable and empower trafficking survivors to seek justice, find healing, and lead lives free of violence; and by educating the public about the realities of human trafficking.
