Determined whether an entire university is subject to Title IX if only one particular university program receives federal funds.

The Supreme Court substantially limited the impact of Title IX by holding that only the particular program that receives federal funds at a school has to treat men and women equally, rather than the school as a whole. Four years later, Congress passes the Civil Rights Restoration Act in part to restore full effectiveness to Title IX.
