On February 14, 2024, Legal Momentum's Staff Attorney Kyra Batté, testified before the New York City Council Committee on Women and Gender Equity, jointly with the Committee on Health, on the nonconsensual drug testing of pregnant patients in health care settings. She specifically discussed how health care providers have discretion in determining whether or not to screen a pregnant patient, making way for implicit bias and discriminatory practices and that rarely, if ever, provide patients with medical counseling or treatment, but rather exclusively report them to child protective services.
