On September 27, 2023 Legal Momentum's Staff Attorney, Kyra Batté, testified in NYC Council's hearing on "The Child Welfare System and the Mandatory Report of Child Abuse or Maltreatment in New York State" that covered biases within the system and future reform. Kyra argued that non-consensual drug testing has no place in the maternal care of pregnant persons as it violates their rights and has long-lasting consequences if child protective services become involved. This is compounded by the overall trauma that happens when trust is broken between the patient and medical provider and undermines future care for the patient.
