The United states is the only developed country in the world that does not provide any paid family leave.

As a result, less than 20% of U.S. workers have access to paid leave through their employers, and those with access to unpaid leave generally cannot afford to take it. To address this “motherhood penalty” it is essential that ALL individuals are afforded equal opportunity to take job-protected paid family leave to bond with new children and care for sick family members.
